Jaunas Mėnulis

by Crooked Mouth & Agota Zdanavičiūtė

Jaunas Mėnulis (New Moon in English) is the first in a series of collaborative singles Crooked Mouth will be releasing 2024, charting to course of the heavens, seasons, and festivals, and the folklore of the cosmos.

The band begins this journey with the first New Moon of the year, called Kumeliuko Krikštynos in Lithuanian, which has a special ancient significance:

“According to the archaic calendar, the New Year was celebrated on this day. This celebration was meant to awaken new life. It was customary to shake the snow-covered branches of apple trees and other trees in the garden, knock on the hives of sleeping bees.”

The track was recorded at Crooked Mouth's home studio on the day of the winter solstice, 2023.
